Orienteering is a competitive sport that appeals to all ages. It involves navigating across a relatively unfamiliar area using a map to find your way around a set course. Orienteering requires physical fitness, skill in map reading, compass work, mental alertness and decisiveness. A standard orienteering course consists of a start, a series of checkpoints called controls at different features in the terrain which must be visited in order, and a finish. During this event compass work will not be necessary but the ability to read an orienteering map is essential.
Teams of 4. All participants must be female. Schools should only be targeting girls who have not represented their school in a sport or physical activity.
